For example, SAE 15W-40 is considered the standard recommended engine oil for most industrial diesel generators.

15W represents the oil flow rate during cold start. The smaller the number, the better the fluidity of the engine oil in low-temperature environments, with stronger cold start performance.

40 represents the viscosity of engine oil at a temperature of 100 ℃, which you can understand as the high-temperature protection ability.

2. Consider The Operating Temperature

The temperature of the generator will affect the oil viscosity, making it behave differently under different environmental conditions. Low temperature can cause the oil to be too thick or even solidify, leading to engine wear and even inability to start, while high temperature may cause the oil to be too thin, accelerating the oxidation of the oil.
